   Résumé
   Le film relate sous la forme d'une chronique au jour le jour la campagne du futur président Kennedy et du sénateur Humphrey pour les élections primaires du Wisconsin. On suit les candidats pas à pas dans leurs visites aux électeurs, les trajets en voiture, les meetings publics ; leur affrontement à la télévision est vu de la coulisse et à travers les réactions de leur entourage, particulièrement Jacqueline Kennedy. Le film se termine sur la joie du couple et du clan Kennedy après la victoire de J.F.K. dans cette primaire qui fut décisive pour la suite.
   Commentaire
   C'est un fantastique tableau de la démocratie américaine qu'a réalisé pour la télévision celui qui fut l'opérateur de Flaherty pour Louisiana Story. Utilisant systématiquement une caméra portable, ce qui était à l'époque une innovation, ce film fut une révélation pour les tenants français du cinéma-vérité, Rouch et Marker en tête, qui y virent à juste titre une éclatante illustration de leurs conceptions. Depuis, la télévision nous a habitués à ce style, mais la manière dont la caméra sait se faire oublier est déjà celle qu'aura Depardon 25 ans plus tard…
